Well I guess the Cory's like the new sand. I have white spots on all four glass walls this morning. Can't do anything this time with snail and black widows in the tank. Will take all out except the Cory's when I get an additional tank.
When I put in the sand I moved the sponge filter higher now the tube rest on the sand rather hidden in the gravel.
Would you just add gravel to cover the half inch pipe or take the sand out of the corner and use all gravel.

Thanks for the help :bye:

Has anyone used lead in their fish tank? Have seen some plant bunches that look like a lead wrap was holding them down.
Was thinking of glass with a lead frame. I could bend into a semi-circle for a retaining wall.

Also have used rubber bands to hold a couple bamboo secures in place on the gravel vacuum. Keeps the head 1.5 inches above substrate and it also mixes the sand.

lead in the fish tank is never a good idea, I wouldnt use it. Although the weights on plants used to be lead based they are now not supposed to contain actual lead but I am not sure about the laws in America.
Perspex can be heated and bent into shapes which would be a better way to go, just slice a bit of airline and place it on top of the perspex to keep any sharp edges away from fish.

observations:
I have changed the way I feed the fish. I was putting in what I wanted all at once, now I make 3 or 4 small adds and stop when I see flakes getting to the bottom. The fish never picked up flakes in the gravel. They do with the sand.
I need to turn down the flow on the external filter. Water flows to front glass then down to sand and moves it away from the glass.
The sand never seams dirty and I don't get near as much in the pail as I use to when I had gravel.
None of the water numbers have changed. I do water change every Saturday.

glad to hear things are doing ok. Watch that you are not over feeding, I only ever feed once a day.

I only feed once a day also. What I meant was I feed 3 or 4 flakes, if it gone in 30 sec. I give them 3 or 4 more, at the most 12 flakes total.

After main lights out I add half of an algae chip for the Cory's and remove any that left before lights out.

The Serpae do not eat algae chip but will eat tuna pellets, The black widows eat both.

The snail was cleaning the glass as always. I watched for fry but saw none.

Have you got males as well as females? The females will lay eggs on the glass even if there's no male about to fertilize them.
