Cannister for internal filter glued to tank

Postby Michelle1976 » Wed Aug 21, 2013 10:51 pm

We bought a second hand fish tank today. The previous owners have glued a canister for an internal filter to the inside of the tank. We'd like to remove it and have an external filter but have no idea how to dissolve the glue. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hi Michelle, the filters are held in place with silicon so you will need something thin, like an 'icing knife' or similar, to push down between the filter and glass. It's a bit fiddly but doable.

Palate knife or the blade out of a craft knife often works. Just be careful if using the blade.
