Hard water

Postby Eric » Sun Jun 23, 2013 1:08 pm

Hi all ,

Can someone tell me how soften the water before i put it in the tank ? I dont want to go down the route of buying RO filters and the like.
I fill a 40 liter tub with a heater in it the night before a water change so it'll be at the same temp as the tank. I also use conditioner. But the problem is the Gh is always above 20. Is there anything i could put in the tub over night to soften it ?

Thanks Eric

Could you not collect rainwater and filter it through peat ? why are you needing such soft water ?

Depending on the fish and where they have come from I find most fish soon get used to the harder or softer water especially if your buying them from somewhere near by you.
What fish is it your keeping or want to keep?

Im planning an amazon biotope and also setting up to try and breed some crown tail bettas so could do with my water a little softer.
