Lighting issues...

Postby steffyboy » Wed Jul 24, 2013 7:42 pm

Got myself a lighting hood a couple of months ago for my 4ft tropical from E-bay.
Brand new and only £50 but it has one blue light in and one white (Both T5's).
Now i know the blue ones are really meant for marine etc and they're not the best for plant growth but will they affect the growth of my fish?
Got a variety of fish and have 5 clown loach...2 medium and 3 babs but the babies don't seem to be growing as quick as usual i think?!!
Do you think it is worth getting new tropical tubes for the lighting hood?

I raised killifish fry in a small tank that had white and blue lights and they grew fine so i don't think the lights are the problem. Clowns are slow growing as are some barbs

What I will say is watch for excess algae with the blue and white mix, I found I got a fair bit if the lights were on too long.
