It hasn't been on the market long enough for it to be deemed reliable IMO, a decent external will last 10+ years and every fluval external I've had experience with so far hasn't, for me you can't go wrong with Eheim (avoid eco range), Rena and Tetratec.

yeah i have noticed the Eheim brand alot with external filters while searching for second hand tanks, 10+ years is amazing for todays tech market regarding anything IMO due to the money making ideas of design's. Thanks for the info jack good to know a rough life span :thu:

I have an Eheim classic that is 22 years old, the only replacement part was one of the seals a few years ago back, apart from that it still runs fine.

I am a fluval fan myself, have had and used them for 10 year plus and not had any issues.

I've got some old Fluvals running, 4 x 303's, 2 x 403's and 2 103's, spares are still readily available, some of mine 'stick' now and again but a sharp tap on the top gets them going. I also have several Eheims that are without doubt the best filter on the market. I have a large Eheim 'bucket filter that has been running for 16 years on one of my tanks, and I bought that second hand!
The new Fluval mentioned, to my mind, is grossly overpriced for what it can filter, I could buy several second hand Eheims for that price, if it were around £50 I might consider one as a novelty. ;plo)
