fish tank in a wall

Postby merulz » Thu Apr 19, 2012 8:43 pm

Hi all.
I have just built a wall in my lounge and have decided to put a fishtank in it. The fish tank is 1100mm long by 350mm high by 120mm thick. I have made it out of 6mm glass. Any suggestions on the types of fish as I was thinking down the line of fresh water?

How you gonna filter the tank.....if you could build a cupboard underneath it you could have an external filter which would be alot neater !!

I have a cupboard to the right of the tank that is 90mm deep that I have allocated for a socket, a pump, a filter and the light ballast. I have seen many slim internal filters but no external filters. Any suggestions?

Just a quick question, what's the thickness of the bottom glass?

Thats a strange size, it works out to be about the 10 gallons, BUT because your tank is really slim being only 12 cm wide you don't have much surface area so you are going to be really really limited on what you can keep in there.

The bottom glass is 6mm.
The wall is 120mm thick, subtract thickness of material, leaves me with a cupboard 90mm deep by 450mm high by 400mm wide.
As far as fish, I was thinking of neons but would like to hear other ideas.

I prefer cardinal tetra(10-12) to neons they shoal better and are brighter. Rummynose tetra(10-12) would also be great.a group of cherry barbs(4-5males+6-7females) would be nice also.......harlequins(10-12),rosy tetra(10-12).....a few small corydoras like cory julii(6) or panda corys(6) or pygmy corys like hastatus(8-10) in small shoals would also be lovely..... i dont mean all these fish :blus: say 10 rummynose or cardinals + 6 panda cory or 8 hastatus+ 6cherry barbs....something like that :ok:

No probs...also a dwarf gourami or betta(siamese fighter) would be nice,or honey gouramis 2/3 males + 3/4 females,sparkling/croaking gouramis(2/3male-5/6fem),blue rams(1 male+2/3 females),peacock gobies(2m+3/4f) ......again not all together just thinking of fish i like that would suit! :-):
